Opening Scene

Documentary

In our groups we had to make a documentary on out chosen film genre and it had to show our understand and knowledge of the genre and show research so we could make an opening of a film based on this genre. Our chosen genre was possessive horror and we found 4 different openings of the possessive horror genre and analysed them in order to form ideas for our own opening, we all had  turn at editing parts of the documentary. We included the definition of a possessive horror which informs people of what it is and shows that it is different to other horrors , we also created a montage of images to show the elements of a possessive horror.
We gave a list of the codes and conventions of a possessive horror and we researched the elements a possessive horror which make it unique so we could get an idea of what we needed to include in our opening, we did an interview in which we asked a friend some questions for our audience research in order for us to know what people want and expect from a possessive horror, so we can make our opening meet the needs of our target audience.
We came up with a conclusion of what we found from our audience research to show that we have taken on the board responses that were given.i think that making the documentary has helped s to do the opening because it has told us hat a possessive horror is required to have and how people feel about certain elements and aspects, i believe the documentary has been a success as we have learnt a lot about how horrors work and what they require, i think it was a good first attempt at making a documentary but feel we could have worked as a group better

Definition of a possessive horror

definition of a possessive horror.

Having or manifesting a desire to control or dominate another, especially in order to limit that persons relationship with others. This is usually done by harming the people that one wants to over power.

Enigmas are used in possessive horrors to capture the audiences attention, this is used as a scaring mechanism as the audience are least expecting it.

Ideas

‪Idea 1:A girl is getting ready and every room she goes in a clown appears however she doesn’t really notice and thinks nothing of it- she then at the end off the opening walks into the bathroom and the clown appears behind her ,almost on her shoulder, she sees this in the mirror and she screams.-This will be anchored by non-diegetic background music, which will build up to a climax at the end further creating tension.-Diegetic sound of the girl screaming.Stock character: a teenage girl - dressed in normal clothingStock setting: a normal houseStock theme: jumpy 

Idea 2:A group of girls of getting ready to go out after having prinks (pre drinks) – a few subtle strange things happen to the girl whilst these strange things are happening the girl doesn’t really notice but her friends know something strange is going on, non-diegetic background music will be used to set the scene at the start and as more strange things happen the music will change to create a dramatic effect. diegetic sound of the girls talking to each other.Stock characters: a group of teenage girlsStock setting: a normal houseStock theme: jumpy 

Idea 3:A girl sleepwalks and does various strange things out of the ordinary e.g. writing strange things on walls. non-diegetic background music will be played throughout the opening.Stock character: a teenage girlStock setting: a normal housestock theme: mystery 

We didn't go for either one of the ideas we came up with instead, we decided that are opening sequence would be a group of girls on there way to a party being abit tipsy already, when one of the girls starts to seem distant towards the other girls, sees a clown walks over to it, she has seen this clown before but nobody else can see it, she then starts to act aggressively towards the other two girls, gets confronted about why she is behaving weirdly and in result ends up harming both of the girls. See runs away, we then see at the end what happened  'two weeks earlier', however this is then cut off to cause suspense as a cliff hanger
